North Arm has a proud history of using marimbas (large home-made xylophones), drums and small percussion as a part of our extensive music program. These are popular with the children as they are easy to play and fun, the ambidexterity gained by playing an instrument with both hands equally, lending itself to expedient learning, building confidence and self esteem.
The classroom music program is 'hands-on', and includes improvisation and composition, musical literacy and creative movement. Repertoire is drawn from contemporary and world music.
The marimba band performances program occurs as an extra-curricular activity, where the children learn more complex pieces and present them at various events, representing our school.
