GENAS Writing

Growing Excellence in North Arm Students (GENAS) in Writing
GENAS in Writing classes are fast-paced lessons which provide our young, up-and-coming writers with an opportunity to continue honing their craft.  During lessons, students are given numerous opportunities to sharpen their skills by way of observing modelled writing, contributing throughout shared writing and practising their craftsmanship during guided and independent writing.   It is universally known that promising athletes get better with practice.  Likewise, for young budding writers who also need ample opportunities to plan, draft, review, edit, publish and celebrate their work.
GENAS in Writing students write for authentic purposes and genuine audiences.  Students become more aware of their own abilities, take increased responsibility for their learning while completing writing projects, and become more confident in sharing their work and receiving and giving feedback.  To date, we have used our writing skills to persuade, entertain and inform various audiences. Our work has been published on numerous platforms including the Sunshine Coast Daily, Small but Loud Voices Book, PK Magazine as well as the school’s website.
Additionally, the GENAS in Writing program includes published author and illustrator visits throughout the year and as a group, we all attend Voices on the Coast, a youth literature festival located on the Sunshine Coast.  Meeting favourite authors such as Morris Gleitzman and Tristan Banks and illustrators like Dave Hackett during incursions and excursions is said to be one of the many highlights of the program.
Futurist, Thomas Frey, said that two billion jobs will be eliminated by 2030 and sixty percent of jobs for the future have not been invented yet.  However, no matter what line of work our students wish to pursue, knowing how to write will always play a significant role in their success.  The ability to express their ideas clearly will continually be paramount.
GENAS in Writing is your child’s opportunity to further their love for writing, enhance their knowledge and skills, and celebrate becoming a published author!
